RESOURCES: LiMa’s Top Picks for Construction Risk and Insurance Conferences

Choosing events and conferences to attend each year can be a daunting task. While some offer excellent networking opportunities, others may provide insightful sessions and presenters that can’t be found elsewhere. Here’s our top pick of upcoming construction claim and risk conferences:

The RIMS Risk Management Annual Conference & Exhibition is a large scale conference gathering thousands from around the world for a common purpose: to share risk management experiences and gain expertise. Cyber risk, energy resources, social media threats and global risk will be just a few of the many topics covered in the sessions addressing risk management issues. If you don’t want to get lost in the crowd, you’ll need to be prepared to put your best networking skills forward, especially in a conference of this size. Oh, and you can catch Olympic Gold Medalist Apolo Anton Ono and Freakonomics Author Stephen Dubner as a keynotes.

Vancouver, May 1-5, 2011. Online info: http://www.rims.org

The West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Conference is also just around the corner and is our top pick for the west. While it may not get as much publicity as larger conferences, West Coast Casualty is the largest seminar of its kind focusing on all of the elements of the prosecution, defense, coverage and technologies of construction defect claims and litigation. This is the place to meet the players in construction defect management.

The IRMI Construction Risk Management Conference occurs the fall and is designed to help navigate the complexities of construction insurance and risk management, all in a neutral environment. It is the self-proclaimed “premier forum for sharing ideas and techniques for improving the ways we manage and insure construction risks.” If you’re looking for workshops, interactive sessions, and “unparalleled networking among the ‘Who’s Who’ in the industry,” then mark your calendar for this event.  Plus, you can’t beat the location.
